About me

My name is Jordan Butler, and I was born on April 15, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. I’m the oldest of four children. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Nevada, Reno with a political science degree and minors in French and journalism.

My travel and volunteer experiences have only begun recently. My first visit to a foreign country was when I went to Mexico with my best friend and her family in December 2005. One year later, I studied abroad in Pau, France for four months and spent an additional two months backpacking through Europe. When I returned, I felt a little guilty and selfish for having such an exhilarating and eye-opening experience. To give myself a sense of redemption, I volunteered at the Nevada Blind Center (where I bowled and taught a theatre class to the visually-impaired) and The Shade Tree (where I was a play companion for the children of abused women) for the summer.

I have an active imagination and a love for writing. While I was in France, I kept a blog that turned out to be an 80,000 word documentation of my time there. I also kept a blog that served as practice for my humorous writing. With these experiences, I hope my Peace Corps blog will be an interesting, informative and entertaining documentation of my time in Madagascar.
